Spiritualized return with a new album, Sweet Heart, Sweet Light on April 16th, 2012 and I’ve just watched the new video for “Hey Jane” (AG Rojas, director). I’m a little stunned, to put it mildly. It’s definitely rated NSFW for blood, guns, BJs and, well, it’s ten minutes long; who has time for a music video that long at work? Do give it a go though, it has the shock value of MIA’s “gingercaust” video for “Born Free” (below), but is more grounded in reality. “Hey Jane” is a great return. It’s definitely Spiritualized, but there’s something less droned out going on as the song progresses. In the third act of the video, Pierce begins the repeated mantra of “sweet heart, sweet light,” the juxtaposition of what’s happening in the story vs. the uplifting repetition doesn’t quite give you the warm and fuzzies, but is very affecting. I’m looking forward to Spiritualized touring this summer; I can finally add to my Spiritualized tee shirt collection which is second to British Sea Power, for some unknown reason.
