Merrill Garbus and crew, aka tUnE-yArDs played The Fillmore on June 6th. This was the second time I had the pleasure of seeing them perform in a week; they also made an appearance at The Sasquatch Music Festival in Washington. The band is on teh leading edge of a national tour in support of their new LP, Nikki Nack, which was released on May 6th.

You can find a full review of the concert at The Bay Bridged.

It’s always an extra challenge when there is no photo pit, and I have to wade out into the crowd to shoot. It limits angles because once you stake out a spot up front in the crowd, there’s little chance to move to a different position. This was particularly challenging at The tUnE-yArDs show as Merrill Garbus has a bulky drum and synth setup, as well as multiple mics that make clean shots extremely difficult.

The lighting at The Fillmore is often psychedelic and saturated, this show was no exception. With lighting like this, it just requires a little extra time editing in Lightroom.
