Volcanic erruption strands UK Coachella artists

Is there insurance for this type of thing? An Icelandic volcano has grounded all air traffic in the UK, stranding many Uk and Scandinavian music artists scheduled to perform at this year’sCoachella. Surprisingly, there has been no official word on cancellations from Coachella organizers.

Bands like Echo & The Bunnymen, 2ManyDJS, Hot Chip and Fever Ray are yet to confirm they can make it to the California music fest, while Frightend Rabbit, Bad Lieutenant, The Cribs, and Delphic are among those stranded in the UK. Bad Lieutenant has already canceled their Friday night show at the Regency in San Francisco.

Luckily The Specials and Whitest Boy Alive arrived earlier this week for some pre-Coachella shows.

Scenestar reports confirmation that The xx, Muse, The Big Pink, Florence and the Machine, Gorillaz, Imogen Heap, Little Dragon, Mary Anne Hobbs, Miike Snow, Porcupine Tree, Public Image LTD, and Tiesto, all landed previous to the volcano erupting.

According to the bassist for The Cribs, they had already boarded a plane and nearly took off before the flight was canceled and the band had to disembark the plane.

“I’d decided which films I was going to see, chosen my meal and was just falling asleep then I got told we had to get off the plane,” he explained adding that the atmosphere at the airport was “angry”, and that the band “were a little stressed”. They are currently due to play the festival on Saturday the 16th.

“It’s a force of nature, you can’t really argue with that,” Jarman added of the ash.
