Last night, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon had the honor of hosting and broadcasting The Specials first US performance in 30 years.
After the original lineup broke up in 1981, several members went on to form Fun Boy Three, while others kept touring and releasing albums under various Specials-related names. The Specials (minus Dammers, who insists the rest of the Specials have shut him out of the reunion) did their classic cover of “A Message To You, Rudy,” from their debut album, “Specials.” They also stuck around after the show finished taping and played Little Bitch. We’ve got both videos here for your skanking pleasure.
I’m headed off to LA tomorrow morning for The Special’s first proper show, at Club Nokia in downtown LA. I’m giddy as a school girl, and happy to report I’ll be shooting. Look for pix and a review over the weekend.
