New To Me: The Horrors

THE HORRORSThere’s a full-on Horrors marketing blitz going on in the UK right now. They were on the cover of NME last week, their new album is released on XL next week, and you can stream the entire album now. But wait there’s more! You can download a free mp3 of Sea Within A Sea from their website, thehorrors.co.uk as long as you’re willing to proffer up an email address.

Given the large amount of online swag, I was surprised there wasn’t any info on their myspace site, such as band member names, bio, etc. A little digging found that The Horrors formed in the summer of 2005 and quickly gained notoriety around London for their look, sound, and brief but frantic live show. They are a quintet, with campy goth names: Coffin Joe, Faris Badwan, Joshua Von Grimm, Spider Webb, Tomethy Furse.

The Horrors will be in Seattle headlining Nuemo’s on May 15th. They’ll be in San Francisco opening for The Kills at The Fillmore on May 19th.

Here’s the video for Sea Within a Sea. The song is over 7 minutes long, and takes a decidedly more poppy turn at around the 5 minute mark. Reminds me of something out of Liverpool in the early 80’s.
