When I got word back in February that Die Antwoord was going to play The Fillmore, I knew I had to be there. These white trash rappers from South Africa are nasty, loud, and fun.

Dark red lights and little light made for a challenging shoot, but nothing that the D4 can’t handle. Luckily there was a photopit, and only two other photographers, so there was plenty of room to move. And move I did; Ninja had been spitting on photographers at their Sasquatch set a few days before, so I made sure to keep my distance. Normally I would be up in a performer’s grill when they’re interacting with photographers and the crowd, but I knew better at this show.
With dark and red lighting like this, it makes for extremely muddy shots straight out of the camera. It just requires a little extra time editing in Lightroom.
