Kishi Bashi 1805

What a fun surprise! I’d never heard of Kishi Bashi before this concert, but the kaleidoscope of colors and beautiful looping violins brought joy to all in attendance.

This was a unique show in that even though there was a photo pit, I was asked to shoot from “front of the house” aka at the soundboard at the very back of the venue. I knew about this limitation a few days beforehand, so I wisely picked up a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8G ED VR and monopod from my local lens rental shop, Keeble and Shuchat. These long soundboard shoots are not my favorite, as they really flatten the image and limit what you can do with composition. But I was glad to shoot even with the limitations at such a special charity event. As an extra bonus, my images were picked up by the San Francisco Chronicle, and I got my first Datebook cover, as well as front page above the fold on the front page itself.
