Big Deal are Kacey Underwood and Alice Costelloe and they harmonize perfectly. I found Big Deal’s melodies and lyrics becoming more and more captivating with every listen. There’s so much raw coming-of-age emotion that rings true throughout the lyrics. There’s a tense and awkward sense of intimacy that’s intensified with the sparse lo-fi arrangements. NME said it best, “Costelloe and Underwood deal with a taboo of teenagedom: that at precisely the same moment that girls are at their most vulnerable, they’re also at their most sexually powerful and emotionally stubborn.”
Over in the UK, their first song, “Homework,” was an instant success and was released as a 7” with a cover of “13” by Big Star as the b-side. A second 7” was released last April and contained the songs “Talk” and “Locked Up.” They’re signed to Mute Records and Lights Out is released January 24th here in the US with a handful of tour dates to follow in March
Download their single “Chair” below. We’ve also included a couple of Soundcloud links, too.
