Johnny Marr Provides Guitar for “Inception” Soundtrack

It’s great work if you can get it. Legendary Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has collaborated with music greats as diverse as Bryan Ferry, Pet Shop Boys, Oasis, Beck, Modest Mouse, and most recently, the Cribs. He has also made his “guitar sound electronic” in the score to the new Antonio Banderas film. Today we find out the soundtrack work continues. He has reportedly contributed guitar work to the highly anticipated upcoming Christopher Nolan dream/virtual-reality flim Inception.

The soundtrack was composed by Hans Zimmer, and based on samples in the film’s trailer, it takes a similarly dark and futuristic tone, much like Marr’s other soundtrack work. In an interview with UAudio [via The Playlist], Zimmer revealed some details about Marr’s contribution.

“It’s a very electronic score,” Zimmer said. “There is orchestra, but the electronics share an equal spotlight, and I also have Johnny Marr playing guitar. Besides Johnny and the orchestra, everything else stays virtual throughout the mix.”

We were already excited about Inception’s premise and it’s all-star cast. These musical reveals give us yet another reason to look forward to Inception’s premiere July 16th. The tantalizing trailer follows.
