For almost a year, Zooey Deschanel has been very tight-lipped about her wedding plans to DCFC frontman Ben Gibbard. Maybe she feels a little more comfortable opening up so far away from home. In a surprising moment of candor, she opened up to the UK’s Daily Mirror about her thoughts on marriage.
“I try not to have too many expectations – I always admired the fact that my parents had been married for a long time, but I didn’t necessarily think that was something I had to do too,” she told the Daily Mirror.
“I thought of it as an option, but when I met Ben, I knew that all of a sudden, it had become something that made sense to me. He’s a great person and I feel very lucky that I found somebody I’m excited to marry. It’s fun to have someone that I’m so close to that I can talk about music with and who understands how important that is to me.”
Zooey added: “Love is something you do. You can’t always explain why you love somebody or why you don’t.”
However, the 29-year-old brunette beauty recently revealed her doubts about committing to one person for the rest of her life.
She said: “People don’t have to get married anymore. We’re a generation that has progressed in many ways, from the ones before us. I think that the idea of romantic love is about marriage is over. Now all love is romantic love. Getting married is not a necessity, and staying with one person is not a necessity.”
