Outside Lands was phenomenal. I think the sleeper show of the weekend was Matt & Kim.
The festival had booked them at the tiny little solar stage. The crowd stretched out forever, spilling out into the vendor and food area. Kim used to be a nanny, and the two little girls she cared for were backstage with their parents. They sat on the back of the stage curing the set, and the four year old had a set of Kim’s drum sticks and drummed along all set on a beach ball.
Kim crowd surfed out a few hundred feet into the audience, and Matt & Kim got the entire audience to chant to the weather gods asking for the “fucking sunshine”.
They were so happy to be at the park with such an enthusiastic crowd. Half way through the set, I upped my shutter speed to 1/1000th of a second. As I told Kim after the set, “Girl even at 1/1000th of a second, you were still too fast to catch!”
Thanks to Matt & Kim for most upbeat, the energetic show of the festival!
