Philip Pickens is from Seattle.  He has been actively DJing as DJ Up Above in many of Seatttle’s hottest night spots for over ten years including The Baltic Room, The Bus Stop, Pony, Chop Suey, Sole Repair and his weekly residency and home base, The Seattle Eagle.  Phil is very eager and chatty about anything music.  If you really want to get him going, mention New Order, Boards of Canada, Mahogany, anything shoegazer, and newcomers, Stephanie and Light Asylum.

Phil’s projects in 2012 include the first ever Color Awesome festival, which is still untitled.  Also, he’s picked up Ableton and is dabbling in remixes which he will premiere here.

Phil’s DJing skills are varied and he loves to genre hop, but can stick to one style of music for hours as well.  If you would like to commission him for a gallery opening, cocktail hour or dance party, you can contact him at phil (at) thecolorawesome.com.

And for the record, Phil is highly embarrassed by the above photo, but lets Paige keep it there to torture and humiliate him.

  1. Hey Phil. We met when you dj’d at the E. You played my request for the Aeroplane remix of ‘Paris’, which made me smile. Hope you’re well.

  2. Hi! I stumbled upon this site when looking for the videos played on Subterranean. Looks like you haven’t kept up with making playlists of videos the show plays. I thought it was a great idea. I hate that I can’t remember the name of the band I saw on there the other day.

  3. Hey There!

I really dig your blog, it seems like we have very similar views and taste. I just started a blog, and would like to link to yours from my page. Would that be cool?

    Cheers!
    Andrew
