Well this is some sad news. TCA favorites, Air France have decided to call it quits. It’s kind of a bummer, really, because the statement they made on their tumblr sounds like they’re giving up.
“…we have probably produced 7 albums since No Way Down; a UK Garage record, a house record, an r ‘n’ b record… but we’ve never been able to finish anything, nothing was ever good enough. We have tried so hard, and we truly gave it all we had. And now we have decided to stop trying, even though it breaks our hearts.”
Air France were the “it” band for a minute in 2010. They played shows with Saint Etienne, as well as remixing them. Prior to the goth revival that is Witch House (still, we like Grave Wave), there was a shining moment when Air France were the kings of a new Tropicália/Balearic movement. Even Seattle’s Beat Connection, who couldn’t possibly deny their own nod to Air France were down to carry the Air France torch. We’re hoping that their promise, “..maybe we’ll see you again in another shape.” holds true. I fell in love with Air France at first listen, and because I am still in love, I feel seriously heartbroken that they are considering leaving forever. So think about it guys, maybe you could call it a “break” to soften the impact; you know, let me down easy?
