The “Publicist” folder in my email program is a bit like my local thrift shop. New stuff is continually being added and I browse through a few times a week, sift through a ton of junk, always hoping to find that special something. Happily I found something this morning – Karaocake.
Karaocake is Camille Chambon (vox, keyboard), Demotic AKA Stéphane Laporte (bass, guitar), Charlotte Sampling AKA Tom Gagnaire (keyboard, sampler). They’re from Paris. The music is a melancholy smattering of lo-fi pop shot through with warbling slivers of psych.
The song we’ve provided for download is “Eeeeerie.” When I listen to it, I can’t help but think if Broadcast and Phil Specter were in a head-on car crash, this is exactly what it would sound like.
