Thee Satisfaction has done it again. Actually, it looks like they’ve done it twice; read on.
It’s popular opinion around thees parts that Seattle is primed to roll back onto the international stage as a music mecca. Everyone, especially members and managers of Seattle’s unexpected Hip Hop scene are proudly patting themselves on the back for doing such a great job. But this thing is just starting to roll; I’d hate to see some of these up and comers get too cocky or put their eggs in one basket or just hang it up altogether. Bands like MAD RAD are doing whatever it takes to get noticed using the punk rock ethic that all press is good press. People like them quite a bit, but I just don’t see it. Shabazz Palaces conversely tried to retain a certain amount of mystery when they popped late last year. Ishmael Butler was/is a member of Digable Planets but didn’t want to attract too much attention and let the music speak for itself (Shabazz Palaces are very different than Digable Planets.) Other notable acts like Fresh Espresso and Champagne Champagne have their well deserved hats in the ring. Somewhere in all of this lay Thee Satisfaction.
Thees girls (Cat and Stas) are about as real as it gets. They are sweet, smart and self admitted weirdos (I love weirdos.) Thee Satisfaction hides behind nothing or no one; what you see and hear is what you get. Their unpretentious approach immediately gets listeners on the music side of things. Hip Hop can develop a thin layer of bullshit over it to create an image which sometimes compliments an artist, but is usually (in my opinion) smoke and mirrors. Thee Satisfaction aren’t a triple threat, they are an undeniable one. Thees Proud, Black, Gay, Women can perform anytime, anywhere on a moments notice and have you begging (seriously) for more. With no cheesy gimmicks, irony or cockiness, Cat and Stas are going to own this town. I know, I know, I have that tendency to gush – but I also have a tendency to be RIGHT.
Check out their newest mixtapes, yes two of them, after the jump. After that, keep searching around their music page and blog. I also HIGHLY recommend their Sa-Ra Creative Partners Mixtape; but you’ll see after just a few clicks why I am so in love with Thees girls!
Thee Satisfaction are performing new material at pun(c)tuation gallery this coming Friday, July 9th from 6-9 P.M.
