Here at the Color Awesome, we’re all about indie pop and we love local artists and festivals. So you can imagine I’m ever so happy to tell you about the San Francisco Popfest 2009, May 21-24. Details via All Shook Down:
“San Francisco Popfest hosts over two-dozen bands of the “melodramatic popular song/indie/pop” at venues intimate enough to keep the prices reasonable. The bills aren’t solely Bay Area focused, with talent coming from the UK, Denmark, and Canada (a special solo performance from the Hidden Cameras). Between May 21 and the 24th, you can hit the Rickshaw, Annie’s, Cafe du Nord, House of Shields, and a special acoustic show by the Dolores Park playground under the Popfest banner.”
You can find the full Popfest schedule, many mp3 sample songs, and more details of the many twee and poppy acts at Popfest’s myspace page or at the Popfest website.
To get you in the Popfest mood, here’s a video from some Popfest veterans, Brooklyn-based My Teenage Stride. This one’s called “To Live and Die in the Airport Lounge”.
